Frequently asked
questions.
How much does a photographer cost, and what is included?
Every photographer prices their work according to the value they believe it offers. I split my sessions into three plans: Short, Standard, and Signature, starting at $70, $115, and $205.
Short is most often used for headshots, portraits, and pets. Standard is a good fit for families, couples, and milestones. Signature is typically for larger families, engagement sessions, maternity, and lifestyle photography. Each plan includes a set amount of session time and photographs delivered as digital downloads.
How do I choose a good photographer near me?
A search online or a recommendation from someone you know is a good place to start. I especially appreciate word of mouth from friends and families who love my work.
Every photographer has a different approach to taking and editing photographs. Look through their portfolio and choose someone whose style feels right for you.
Can you photograph what I need and create the style I want?
I love meeting with my clients beforehand to understand what they’re looking for. Bring your ideas, and we’ll talk through the photographs and style you have in mind. After editing, if you’d like changes, I’ll do my best to accommodate them.
How far ahead should I book, and how do I reserve a date?
The easiest way to get started is to email me with a few dates and times that work for you. We’ll find a time that works for both of us. You usually don’t need a lot of advance notice, though you’re welcome to book farther ahead if you prefer.
What should I wear, bring, or do to prepare?
Come ready to be photographed, and let me know about anything you need us to accommodate.
A Short session generally allows for one outfit and one location. With Standard, we may be able to fit in two outfits and two locations, though time is tight. For Signature, we can work in as many outfit changes and nearby locations as the session time allows. That’s often the best fit when you have more specific or extensive ideas.
What happens during the session, and will you help me pose?
Before the session, we’ll finalize the location and how much time you’ll be photographed: 15 minutes for Short, 30 minutes for Standard, or 60 minutes for Signature.
You’re welcome to bring poses you’d like to try. I also prepare posing ideas that fit the type of photography you’re requesting, so you don’t have to arrive with everything figured out.
How many photos will I receive, and in what format?
Short includes at least 8 photographs, Standard at least 15, and Signature at least 30. Your photographs come as digital downloads, with high-resolution files available if requested. I never provide raw, unedited files.
When will I get my photos?
Depending on the time of year and how much planning we’ve done in advance, I aim to send a few samples within 24 hours and the full set within 72 hours.
Do you edit or retouch photos, and what can you change?
I prefer to keep editing and retouching light. I want to capture the real moment and give you a memory that lasts a lifetime. If you have specific retouching requests or something you’d like removed, we can talk through what’s possible.
What happens if we need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens, even when you want to photograph it. If you have to cancel, the deposit paid up front is non-refundable.
If we need to reschedule because of rain, illness, or an emergency, there’s no rescheduling charge. We’ll do our best to get a new date on the calendar as quickly as possible.
